Magic carpets have existed in mythical story telling for centuries. Imagine if you can, riding on a woven, woolen vehicle and the enormous leap of faith it would require to step on this shimmering conveyance. Likewise, entering into a therapeutic relationship, in particular one that uses the arts, might also require a bit of faith. Equating magic of any kind with therapy can be a thorny proposition. Therapy is not a stroke of magic. It takes a great deal of soul-searching effort. When it works it can feel mystically magical. My purpose is to convey that magic and the best way I know how is through art.

The

Chapters

From the Book’s introduction: “Each 18” x 24” section became part of the larger picture. Back on the wall I worked on the drawing as a whole (Figure I.1), with freer, more sweeping lines and swaths of color. One day a friend saw the large drawing on my wall and suggested it be the book’s cover. Each individual drawing had inspired it’s own chapter and that’s how the structure of the book emerged.”

The structure of this venture was built from these 18” x 24” pastel drawings. My images were the foundation and my beacon all along the way.
